BIS: THE MOST POWERFUL BANK YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF

The Untouchables: "Maybe we'd feel better about the BIS if it were more transparent, but most everything about it, including its bi-monthly member and board meetings, is shrouded in secrecy. And perhaps more worrisome is that the BIS is free from oversight: all of the bank's people, the archives, documents and "any data media" are "inviolable at all times and in all places.*

Henk Ruyssenaars & the BIS*

Quote: "Not to mention that we can't ignore a simple corollary: anyone with the power to prevent a currency debacle can also cause one." And that's exactly what the BIS always does. As long as it's profitable to themselves, the criminal banking cartel.

May 1st 2010 - In Greece hundreds of thousands are demonstrating again and again - like everybody everywhere should - against the IMF's austerity measures their PM Papandreou says will save the nation. It in reality will make the people suffer and die, but: "Greece’s survival is at stake" says the dishonest Papandreou.*

And with bought and bullied collaborators everywhere, the BIS' slaughter globally goes on, as do all demonstrations. But you will not see those in the 'messmedia' they nearly all also own. The goal is - among other creepy inhuman things - a one world currency as described by Investors Insight too, below. And as always more power and profit for the greedy monetarists.

They, the financiers, and nobody else, are the evil dark force behind the global monetary control. The IMF and World Bank for instance, like most financial institutions, are subservient to the BIS. They do as they are told by the BIS Board of which they are a part, or else...*

It is a pity that so many people in so many countries are betrayed by the so-called governments, while they only are criminal collaborators who are bought by the BIS bankers. How the BIS in reality works, as a monetary and global octopus, strangling too many, was in a very rare article about this global 'department of finances' - hidden between the Alps - described by The Washington Post where it in 1988 already was understood that: "Key Players Control World Money Supply."*

But: "Trade unions in Athens have vowed to stage new strikes to protest additional austerity measures planned by Greece's government, as officials from the euro zone and the International Monetary Fund worked to finalize an aid package for the debt-laden nation. News of the additional austerity measures provoked an angry reaction from trade unions, which are organizing a general strike for May 5. Demonstrations are also planned for Saturday, which is Labor Day.*

"THE MOST POWERFUL BANK YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF"

Investors Insight.com - You know banks like Citibank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, etc. You read about the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), even if you're not quite sure what they do (not to worry--they're a little confused, too). And you're probably aware that the Federal Reserve is neither federal nor a reserve, but a consortium of privately owned banks. Chances are, though, that you've never even heard of what is arguably the most powerful financial institution on earth, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

The BIS is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. It was founded in 1929, for the purpose of overseeing reparation payments owed by Germany as a result of the Treaty of Versailles that ended World War I. It's been with us ever since, and its mission has, to put it mildly, grown a bit.

A banker's bank, the BIS does no direct business with individuals, governments, or corporate entities. Instead, it deals solely with member nations' central banks (most of which are privately owned). There are 55 of them at present, and the list includes every central bank of consequence in the world.

All members are owners and have voting privileges, in proportion to the number of shares they have. (Private citizen ownership was originally allowed, and comprised about 14% of shares outstanding, but in 2001 all of those were bought out by the central banks.) We were unable to pin down the exact present share structure, but it can be assumed that the founding members have the most clout.

The founders were the central banks of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the U.K., all of which got an identical number of shares. The U.S. Federal Reserve was not an original shareholder; however, three American banks (J. P. Morgan, First Bank of New York, First Bank of Chicago) each got the same number, giving the U.S. three times the voting power from the outset.

Management's inner circle is of course the Board of Directors. There are six ex officio (i.e., permanent) members, the central bank governors of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and the U.K., plus the chairman of the Fed. These six appoint six others of their own nationality, and then there can be up to nine more elected members (there are five at the moment, representing Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland). Ben Bernanke has thus just replaced Alan Greenspan as the U.S.'s ex officio rep, and his appointed American sidekick is New York Bank President Timothy Geithner.*

So, what does the BIS do these days? According to the bank's website, "BIS . . . fosters international monetary and financial cooperation and serves as a bank for central banks . . . by acting as: a forum for discussion and decision-making among central banks and within the international financial and supervisory community; a centre for economic and monetary research; a prime counterparty for central banks in their financial transactions; and agent or trustee in connection with international financial operations."

That is, it helps central banks construct and implement financial policy decisions, in concert with one another. And it acts as a third party in transactions, facilitating the flow of money and other financial instruments, including gold." [ ]

Isn't the saying: They who hold the gold, hold the power? - Have a look at what's called 'Rothschild's London Gold price fixing.' - Url.: http://goldinfo.net/londongoldfix.html

Further quote Investors Insight: "Putting it succinctly: "Promoting monetary and financial stability is one key objective of the BIS," although it would probably be more accurate to call that the key objective. The bank sees as its primary job the stabilization of world financial markets.

It accomplishes this through control of currencies. It currently holds 7% of the world's available foreign exchange funds, whose unit of account was switched in March of 2003 from the Swiss gold franc to Special Drawing Rights (SDR), an artificial fiat "money" with a value based on a basket of currencies (44% U.S. dollar, 34% euro, 11% Japanese yen, 11% pound sterling).

The bank also controls a huge amount of gold, which it both stores and lends out, giving it great leverage over the metal's price and the marketplace power that brings, since gold is still the only universal currency. BIS gold reserves were listed on its 2005 annual report (the most recent) as 712 tons. How that breaks down into member banks' deposits and the BIS personal stash is unknown.

By controlling foreign exchange currency, plus gold, the BIS can go a long way toward determining the economic conditions in any given country. Remember that the next time Ben Bernanke or European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet announces an interest rate hike. You can bet it didn't happen without the concurrence of the BIS Board." - [ ]

HR: Jean-Claude Trichet, the criminal banking cartel collaborater at the BIS' 'European Central Bank' is a very dirty tricky monster, as is shown below by his umpteenth speech this week for the global shadow government, the Council on Foreign Relations. Urging a one world currency.*

Investors Insight: "Obviously, this bank wields a lot of power. But are they good guys or bad guys? In their own estimation, unsurprisingly, they are the white hats. They work to prevent chaos and, as they put it, address "imbalances" in the increasingly interconnected global financial marketplace. They derail panics and currency meltdowns when they can.

While we at WWNK generally prefer that private interests do things that government would like to get its hands on (and screw up), we are also free-marketers, and therefore uneasy with any entity, public or private, that can tamper with the free market. Preventing a currency meltdown may be a good thing, or it may not. A devaluation may be just what a country's money needs. Not to mention that we can't ignore a simple corollary: anyone with the power to prevent a currency debacle can also cause one.

Another negative is that the BIS can cooperate with governments on transactions that said governments would rather keep out of the public view. For example, U.S. taxpayer monies can be passed through BIS to the IMF and from there anywhere. In essence, the BIS launders the money, since there is no specific accounting of where particular deposits came from and where they went.

This is what happened during the Brazilian panic of 1998, when the IMF, courtesy of American workers, bailed that country out. Not incidentally, our taxpayers were generally unaware that what they were mostly doing was subsidizing the large American banks (Citigroup, J. P. Morgan Chase and FleetBoston among them), which had made a lot of risky loans and didn't feel like paying a penalty for their mistakes." - [ ]

HR: "Argentine & Brazil: more countries escape IMF garotte" - Url.: http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/12/330618.html

Investors Insight: "Maybe we'd feel better about the BIS if it were more transparent, but most everything about it, including its bi-monthly member and board meetings, is shrouded in secrecy. And perhaps more worrisome is that the BIS is free from oversight. By rights granted under its agreement with the Swiss Federal Council, all of the bank's archives, documents and "any data media" are "inviolable at all times and in all places."

Furthermore, officers and employees of BIS "enjoy immunity from criminal and administrative jurisdiction, save to the extent that such immunity is formally waived . . . even after such persons have ceased to be Officials of the Bank." Finally, no claims against BIS or its deposits may be enforced "without the prior agreement of the Bank."

In other words they can do whatever they want, without consequences. How's that for a leak-proof legal umbrella?

But in the end, how you feel about the BIS may come down to how you feel about a one-world currency. The bank was a major player promoting the adoption of the euro as Europe's common currency. There are rumors that its next project is persuading the U.S., Canada and Mexico to switch to a similar regional money, perhaps to be called the "amero," and it's logical to assume the bank's ultimate goal is a single world currency. That would simplify transactions and really solidify the bank's control of the planetary economy.

Will the day ever come when the earth is flooded with fiat "globos?" We sincerely hope not. And, as the recent transnational rush to turn paper into gold suggests, the market is beginning to agree with us." - [end article] - Url.: http://tinyurl.com/2wdh53o

THE BIS BANKERS RULE THE WORLD OF 'MONEY'

You will not see it in the compliant and cowardly media, prostituting themselves for the usurers, but it is quite clear that Rothschild's BIS bankers are ruling the world of 'money.'

And they steal permanently from you. Everywhere in earth they can rob, kill and steal, they'll do it. And have someone else always foot the bill. They really skim countries and taxpayers which pay for their incredible wealth. And they all are inhuman criminals which should be locked up in jail for life.

Mind you: human beings never count! NEVER! Those greedy bastards kill you for a dime, if a profit is to be made. And they have done so for ages. Ninety-nine percent is a victim of their robbing, killing usury.

Just one example: all the so-called 'bail-outs' - whether it's countries, like Greece now, Portugal, Iceland, Ireland, Spain and later on Italy or the so-called 'bail-out' of banks which are 'too big to fall': it's all by criminal bankers stolen billions or trillions, and the tax payer always gets the bill.

It's the same old story, and a centuries old guideline:

If you keep them stupid, then I'll keep them poor...

And Rothschild's BIS bandits are untouchable...

They are, at least until further notice.

You see why people demonstrate? They all and everywhere hate the usurers... And what they're doing to them.

We have got to stop them, before they stop humanity.

AFGHANISTAN CONFERENCE LONDON: NO DRUGS, JUST OCCUPATION?

Henk Ruyssenaars + Chris Marsden

January 29th - 2010 - During the London conference concerning the armed robbery of Afghanistan, not a word was said about the fact that the criminal global cartel - via the greatest drug dealer on earth, the CIA - now has more than 90% of the world market in heroin in the bloody paws.

If you read those items concerning Afghanistan - that the CIA's managers for instance have forbidden the use of the opium destroying fungus 'Lotus Eater' plus the fact that 'Big Pharma' and their collaborators make billions in profits - you'll understand more of the fake conference in London. It was just a matter of dividing the cake. Read and weep!

Have you ever thought about how it's possible to do this illegal but enormous business in a war torn occupied country? Look at the big deals criminal cartel firms like SHELL, the Chinese or BP does in those occupied countries. Oil and drugs, that's where the enormous profits come from.

As their propaganda bureau Reuters published on Sunday, January 17, 2010: "Iraq: Shell and Petronas sign final Majnoon oil deal." - * One of biggest oilfields in world - * Iraq could become a top three oil producer - * Shell and Petronas to invest tens of billions - Url.: http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKLDE60G06320100117

And they all know what for instance was said already in September 2004: "The United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has told the BBC the US-led invasion of Iraq was an illegal act that contravened the UN charter. - Iraq war illegal, says Annan." - BBC Url.: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/3661134.stm

Logically, and seeing what the war criminals do, any decent human being on earth knows that what's going on in the name of this criminal cartel, paid by the tax payers nota bene, is absolutely illegal and makes war criminals of all those who support this. Whatever their nationality.

They are all war criminals and must be punished as such as soon as humane laws are valid again. HR & war criminals - Url.: http://tinyurl.com/ye2zyys

And the millions of people? The cartel's managers and their armed and killing 'gofers' never care for one nanosecond about them. NEVER! Only profit counts for those criminals: strategically and/or financially.

You know what our problem is? We have never learned nor thought that this cartel - doing it already for such a long time to humanity - could and can be so intensely bad, so immensely rotten to the core as they are. - Url.: http://tinyurl.com/ylk3x2t

Another warning and more insight was given by Chris Marsden who wrote an article on this for WSWS: "London conference on Afghanistan: Occupation will last for years to come.

World Socialist Web Site - 29 January 2010 - The London conference on Afghanistan laid down a scenario for the country’s military occupation stretching over at least 5 years and, according to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, as long as 15 years.

Gone was President Barack Obama’s claim that withdrawal of US troops would begin by 2011, replaced by a region-by-region transfer of responsibility that will take several years and will be dictated by “conditions on the ground,” as determined by the military.

There is to be a concerted effort to incorporate various Afghan warlords presently associated with the Taliban insurgency into a power-sharing government with Karzai and split off upwards of 12,000 Afghan fighters, using a slush fund of over $650 million provided by the US, Japan, Britain, Germany and others. (Only $147 million of this has been pledged.) There will be a major military offensive to “convince” the Taliban that resistance is not an option.

[HR: Remember 'Big Brother'?: "All resistance is futile!"]

WSWS: "Regarding the international trust fund, Britain’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown stated that its purpose was “to provide an economic alternative to those who have none,” other than participation in the insurgency.

Afghan President Karzai said, “To make our program a success, we hope that His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz of Saudi Arabia will kindly play a prominent role to guide and assist the peace process.” He pleaded with “all our neighbours, particularly Pakistan,” to “support our peace and reconciliation endeavours.”

Karzai has said that the establishment of a national council for peace, reconciliation and re-integration will be followed by a “peace jirga,” an assembly of elders, with King Abdullah playing a “prominent role.”

The main thrust of the policy is directed to various warlords, who will be offered roles in government. The cynicism involved in this plan is extraordinary, given that the war against Afghanistan was launched in 2001 on the pretext that the Taliban regime had to be overthrown because it sheltered Osama Bin Laden and had ties to Al Qaeda.

Bin Laden is now barely ever mentioned, while the US has been in direct negotiations with representatives of Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar and others—forces whom US Defence Secretary Robert Gates now describes as part of the “political fabric” of Afghanistan.

Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the US commander in Afghanistan, told the Financial Times prior to the London conference, “I think any Afghans can play a role if they focus on the future, and not the past.”

Five former senior Taliban officials have already been removed from a United Nations sanctions list to facilitate these manoeuvres.

The long-term aim is to consolidate the transformation of Afghanistan into a US-controlled protectorate, ruling through a power-sharing client regime. In the next period, however, the emphasis is on an escalation of the US-led military offensive, using the 110,000 troops that will be stationed there after Obama’s surge. Brown threatened that “for those insurgents who refuse to accept the conditions for reintegration, we have no choice but to pursue them militarily.”

Major Gen. Nick Carter, the commander of 45,000 NATO troops in Helmand province, announced that a major offensive would be launched to “assert the control” of the Afghan government in areas currently controlled by the Taliban. The operation will involve elements of the 10,000 British troops in Helmand and 13,000 newly arrived US Marines.

An unnamed London diplomat described this as “a carrot-and-stick approach.” He elaborated: “On the ground, there will be up to 40,000 more troops this year making things uncomfortable for the Taliban. The carrot is the money and a place within the power structure of Afghanistan.”

In truth, the “carrot” is being offered to the warlords, while the stick will be applied to insurgents and Afghan civilians alike.

This effort to militarily demoralise the Taliban and incorporate sections into government is conceived of as spanning at least three years, with Afghan forces only “taking responsibility for physical security within five years.” Even so, Brown repeatedly refused to give a timetable for withdrawal, insisting that this depended on meeting conditions so that “security can be taken over by the Afghans in the provinces in which we operate.”

McChrystal also told the Financial Times, “I believe that it will be more conditions-based, there will be an agreement on certain conditions driving the transitions.”

In a BBC interview broadcast before the conference started, Karzai was even less optimistic, stating, “With regard to training and equipping the Afghan security forces, 5 to 10 years would be sufficient. With regard to sustaining them… the time period extends to 10 to 15 years.” - [ ]

HR: BBC - Url.: http://tinyurl.com/y9eye3n

WSWS: "The London conference was testimony to how anxious the world’s major powers are to demonstrate their readiness to lend support to the US intervention in Afghanistan. Despite growing concerns that the occupation is becoming a quagmire, sucking in troops and costing vast sums, no one wants to openly antagonise Washington or be excluded from establishing his own influence within strategic oil- and gas-rich regions neighbouring Afghanistan.

Sixty-plus nations attended the conference, as well as representatives from NATO, the United Nations, the European Union and the World Bank." - [ ]

HR - Google search: Web Results 1 - 10 of about 2,960 for Ruyssenaars +"World Bank" - Url.: http://tinyurl.com/ygzaase

WSWS: "Brown boasted that more than 8,000 extra NATO troops had been committed to Afghanistan since Obama announced the US surge last year. Four more countries have joined the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)—Armenia, Mongolia, Montenegro and South Korea, which are all non-NATO members. They have pledged nearly 800 additional troops between them, with the majority coming from South Korea. This means that there are now 47 countries involved in Afghanistan. The day before the London conference, Germany pledged an additional 500 troops.

None of this in the long-term compensates for the mounting problems facing the US in Afghanistan. Washington remains to a large degree dependent on Karzai, whose corrupt regime is massively unpopular and remains in power only thanks to Western-sanctioned electoral fraud.

The Taliban are far from demonstrably losing the military struggle, and are a long way from accepting a role as a US proxy. A Taliban statement denounced the London conference as a “waste of time” aimed at justifying foreign occupation. It declared, “The recent attacks in Kabul were, in fact, a message for the London conference that the Taliban are not ready to negotiate and do not desire to set up a regime in collaboration with those who bear the marks of slavery to the occupiers.”

As to the regional powers, Iran, which is faced with growing threats from Washington and London, did not attend the conference, which it denounced for its focus on increasing military action in Afghanistan. Pakistan did attend, but its Inter Services Intelligence agency is tied to the Taliban, and Islamabad is also faced with growing hostility from the US.

Prior to the conference, the New York Times published two classified memos from Karl Eikenberry, the United States ambassador in Kabul, that gave a devastating verdict on the situation confronting America in Afghanistan. Eikenberry, a retired army lieutenant general, served three years in Afghanistan over the course of two separate tours of duty, and was responsible during 2002-2003 for rebuilding Afghan security forces. He then served 18 months (2005-2007) as commander of US forces in Afghanistan.

Written last November as an argument against McChrystal’s proposal for a surge, Eikenberry warned that deploying large American reinforcements would cost tens of billions of dollars and deepen the Karzai government’s dependence on the US, making it “difficult, if not impossible, to bring our people home on a reasonable timetable.”

He described Karzai as “not an adequate strategic partner,” who was incapable of taking responsibility and exerting sovereignty. “He and much of his circle do not want the US to leave and are only too happy to see us invest further,” he wrote. “They assume we covet their territory for a never-ending ‘war on terror’ and for military bases to use against surrounding powers.”

Tellingly, he warned, “Pakistan will remain the single greatest source of Afghan instability so long as the border sanctuaries remain.” He added, “As we contemplate greatly expanding our presence in Afghanistan, the better answer to our difficulties could well be to further ratchet up our engagement in Pakistan,” raising the clear possibility of an extension of military hostilities.

The most dangerous factors threatening the plans of Obama, Brown, et al are the broad opposition among the Afghan people to the occupation and the massive unpopularity of the war amongst the working people of the US and Europe."

THE DESTRUCTION OF THE UNITED STATES

"Creative Destruction Is His Middle Name."

Henk Ruyssenaars & Franklin's Focus

January 11th 201010 - If you read this first, you can understand why the evil cartel is busy really destroying the United States and it's social infrastructure too. This cabal which runs after its hegemony dream, is a group which does an enormous amount of damage to mankind. Michael Ledeen - who is one of the worst - explains how he sees it:

“Creative destruction is our middle name, both within our own society and abroad. We tear down the old order every day, from business to science, literature, art, architecture, and cinema to politics and the law. Our enemies have always hated this whirlwind of energy and creativity, which menaces their traditions (whatever they may be) and shames them for their inability to keep pace.

Seeing America undo traditional societies, they fear us, for they do not wish to be undone. They cannot feel secure so long as we are there, for our very existence-our existence, not our politics-threatens their legitimacy.

They must attack us in order to survive, just as we must destroy them to advance our historic mission.

“Therefore ‘they must attack us in order to survive,’ and, sooner or later, we must confront them and, I hope and trust, defeat them in order to advance our mission of spreading freedom.” - Michael Ledeen.

[end quote] - Url.: http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/1504.html

Franklin's Focus, 1/10/10, has a story about what is happening to the United States too, and writes among many things also this:

"What Did the So-Called 'Stimulus Package' Really Signify?"

There have been endless reams of print by fawning establishment columnists and never ending shallow babbling by intellectually challenged talking heads concerning the grand Obama stimulus package. I finally stopped listening to or reading these apologists for what was in my view an eminently undisguised final stage of American capitalism as the ruling élan vital in American culture, politics, domestic policies, and so on.

This action by Obama and his Wall Street bosses marked an ugly turning point in American history. Standing out at this historical moment in our history was the final knell for organized labor, for free medical care for all, and for a rationally based free educational system from kindergarten through college and technical schools, and such things as protection of home owners from a greed driven, corrupt financial system. Unfettered capitalism and its captains have now finally wiped out any hope for an America that would or could begin to compare with the societies created in such egalitarian, socialist democracies such as those of a Netherlands* or a Norway.

The ruling class with the leadership of Obama have set down the general criteria for political, social, and economic policies in Amerika. That is the way I saw it from day one. The trouble was that my vision of what had happened seemed to be almost unique. None of the talking heads and scribes seemed to have a perspective that was even close to my own. I can normally find one or two such sources that resonate to some small degree with my own radical views. Alas, I could find none.

Then, while visiting a black website this morning, I came across a radio commentary by a black activist that I paused to listen to. As I listened to the tape, it was as though I was hearing my own radical thoughts being fed back to me.

I am attaching a script of that brief commentary so you can see how torrid my thinking has become with regard to Obama's embrace of Wall Street and its minions as the ruling caste for Amerika.

Martin Luther King's dream may have been the final high point in the hopes for a true democracy as it was originally conceived of by the Enlightenment. That long ago magnificent set of hopes ran into an immediate huge land mine in the drafting of the American Constitution in the form of a slave owning, sexist plutocracy. The much revered convention that created that antidemocratic document instead of creating a document that reflected the core spirit of the Enlightenment patched together the foundation stones for what we are seeing emerge in America today under the leadership of Obama and friends.

Maybe I'm exaggerating by painting the bailout as a symbolic Waterloo for any kind of true democracy in Amerika. Okay, I've been known to do so. Still, the evidence for my thesis keeps growing each day as we watch the building of an Amerika that has set a course for creating a vast economic underclass with poor educations, poor health, and a poor understanding of what exactly has happened to their 'America the beautiful'.

Anybody who believes American 'democracy' has not entered a degenerate stage should closely examine the great extent to which torture has been used by agents of our government and is still be being used in secret CIA prisons around the world. This is so profoundly in opposition to the Enlightenment concept of democracy, it is difficult to explain to those who see no harm in it, and actually see it as a meritorious tool to be used for protecting our 'democracy'.

Searching for a suitable quote, I came across the following observations by Ralph Ingersoll. His early comments are the canniest of any I've seen with respect to the interplay between the policies of a nation and the Weltanschauung of its citizenry.

Today's Quotation

'Is it not possible that the tyranny of governments, the injustice of nations, the fierceness of what is called a law, produce in the individual a tendency in the same direction? Is it not true that the citizen is apt to imitate his nation? Society degrades its enemies — the individual seeks to degrade his. Society plunders its enemies, and now and then the citizen has the desire to plunder his. Society kills its enemies, and possibly sows in the heart of some citizen the seeds of murder.'

Robert Ingersoll

The media, both fictional and true, have long glorified the torture using CIA, the mass murdering Green Berets, and so on. What effect does it really have on the mind of a ten-year-old boy who dreams of one day becoming a CIA agent? Or perhaps a police officer?

Young boys at play have been observed acting out torture of their enemies. When I was a kid, this was never even imagined in our play. Ingersoll's comment does seem to resonate today, like it or not.

2009: The Year Wall Street Devoured the US Government

A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford.

“President Barack Obama joined with the Federal Reserve to put the entirety of the nation's current and future wealth at the disposal of the bankster class.”

It is almost always up to historians to locate watersheds in human history, to pinpoint that period of time when accumulated social and economic changes can no longer be denied, and it must be concluded that the society has entered a qualitatively new and different period.

The beginnings and ends of eras are seldom recognized at the time they occur. Only by looking back do we gain the perspective to conclude that something world-shaking has happened.

2009 will, I believe, go down in history as the year that Wall Street – shorthand for the finance capitalist class – finally chewed up and swallowed whole the government of the United States. It is, of course, true that businessmen have shaped the laws and policies of the American state since the founding the Republic – most notably, men in the business of slavery and land piracy. When plantation slavery power was broken in the Civil War, manufacturing capital, in league with banks, dominated national life. By the 1950s, captains of industry could still proclaim that what was good for General Motors was good for the country.

But sometime in the 1970s – no one can definitively say exactly when – the money handlers got the upper hand over the industrialists. For the first time, the General Motors Acceptance Corporation, the financial arm of the giant auto maker, made bigger profits than its parent company.

“When the bubbles finally burst, it would require the full faith and credit of the United States to prevent utter collapse of the financial sector.”

By the 1980s Wall Street was busily dismantling the manufacturing sector of the United States. Finance capital achieved total supremacy over the Democratic Party under President Bill Clinton, whose operatives abolished all effective controls on the mass manipulation of money. The bankers were now free to create bubbles so huge that when they finally burst, in September of 2008, it would require the full faith and credit of the United States to prevent utter collapse of the financial sector.

The job of reinflating the Wall Street bubble fell to President Barack Obama, whose executive branch joined with the Federal Reserve to put the entirety of the nation's current and future wealth at the disposal of the bankster class. By July of 2009, Obama and the Fed had committed $23.7 trillion dollars of the people's cash and credit to bail out the banks.

In a real sense, it does not matter how many trillions were actually spent, or will be sucked up by Wall Street in the future.

The point is, the U.S. government in 2009 put everything the people of the United States own or create, or can ever hope to own or create, permanently at the service of Wall Street. Like the young “Alien” in the science fiction movie series, Wall Street has attached itself to the face and body of the nation and is sucking it to death.

The picture that best explains the historical significance of the year 2009, is President Obama holding a teleconference with bankers who didn't bother to show up for a meeting with him at the White House, in mid-December [2]. Obama is pleading with them to at least pretend to act in the interest of the public whose national resources they have stolen.

But the banksters see no need to pay even token respect [3] toa president who is actually their servant. Having swallowed the state whole, they simply...digest it, knowing they can come back for seconds and thirds until the people's credit is exhausted.
